white sangria

Amys Gluten Free Pantry

It’s summer and nothing goes down better than the sweetness of wine with the addition of sparkling water, fruit juice and fresh fruit. In the last few years, I’ve come across dozens of recipes for both red and white sangria. I developed this recipe using my favorite flavors which I thought would compliment one another. This is one of those recipes that you can experiment with, adding your own favorite ingredients. This is wonderful for a crowd. I served it at my niece’s baby shower on a warm California day and it was a hit – not even a cup left over.

There’s lots of ingredients, but trust me…it is well worth the effort. The wines used are really affordable, plus, with a punch bowl, it’s self serve. You could serve this in a crock, but I wouldn’t recommend it. With a ladle, you can scoop a bunch of fruit into your cup along with the sangria. This is my new favorite.

Prep time: 30 minutes
Total time: 5 hours, 30 minutes
Yield: Serves about 18-20
Special equipment: large punch bowl and ladle

2 bottles white wine (I used an Albarino from Trader Joes, but any light white will work…Riesling is good too)
1 bottle Vinho Verde (from Trader Joe’s again, but if you can’t find it, use another light white)
6 oz. Cointreau (or Triple Sec, which is a lot less expensive, also from Trader Joe’s)
18 oz. pineapple juice
18 oz. orange juice
2 green apples, cored, quartered and sliced width-wise
2 oranges sliced thin, then cut in half
2 plums sliced in eight wedges
2 peaches sliced in eight wedges
10 strawberries sliced in half with stem
1/2 c. blueberries
2 c. simple syrup
1/2 c. lemon juice
1 bottle sparkling Italian lemonade (I got mine at Trader Joe’s)
2 bottles sparkling water (I used S. Pellegrino)
floating “bundt” ice block

  1. Mix first 13 ingredients together 4-5 hours before you want to serve it. (I used 3 separate pitchers, with ingredients evenly split. Remember, a bottle of wine is 3 c., so using 3 pitchers works well). Cover pitchers with plastic or wax paper and refrigerate.
  2. Just before serving, add sangria to punch bowl and add sparkling lemonade and sparkling water. Float ice block in the middle watch the punch disappear.
