tartar sauce

Amys Gluten Free Pantry

My grandmother was an amazing cook, but never wrote her recipes down. Actually, I never did either until I started this blog, so I shouldn’t complain. So when I found her tartar sauce recipe in our family cook book, it listed only ingredients. After a few trials, here’s what I came up with. Serve with Fish Sticks, Fish Cakes or thin it down with salsa and drizzle onto any type of taco.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Total time: 5 minutes
Yield: 1 c.

1 c. mayonnaise (Best Foods is GFCF, but not soy-free) or Veganaise and Spectrum offer GFCFSF options)
1 T sweet pickle relish (Trader Joe’s Organic Sweet Pickle Relish is GFCF)*
1–2 T finely chopped onion
1–2 T lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste

*for nightshade allergies, make sure your relish doesn’t have peppers is it. If so, substitute sweet pickles, finely diced.

  1. Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate for several hours.
