I was very excited to see this recipe… but don’t onion and garlic powders contain gluten/wheat to prevent sticking? What brands do you use?

    Thanks!

      Hi Heather,
I have found that the anti-caking agents sometimes added to spices are silicon dioxide, calcium silicate or sodium aluminum, but typically not gluten. I buy my spices at my local health food store which uses no caking agents at all; however, I only buy what I need because the garlic and onion powders start to cake within about 3 weeks. If you want to try a fresh approach, try crushing a large clove of garlic and grating about a quarter of a yellow onion; set it aside and gradually add to the mayo mixture to see what you come up with. Necessity is the mother of invention and you might come up with something great!

    Heather,
here’s a great link I just found from Shelley Case, Registered Dietician regarding spices and gluten: http://glutenfreediet.ca/blog/?p=41. Also, I’ve found McCormick spices are all gluten-free. Hope this helps!
    Best,
